Research & discovery

What we learned before building

Discovery ran before a line of production code. These are the findings that changed the brief.

User Research
Seekers told us the anxiety was not the reading, it was the meter. People abandoned sessions because they could not see what they were spending. That single insight drove the decision to put a live balance and duration counter in front of both parties for the whole call.
Competitor Analysis
Incumbent astrology apps treated consultation as a booking problem — pick a slot, wait, join. Our review found the drop-off happened in the waiting, so we designed for immediate matching instead of scheduled appointments.
Market Analysis
Demand is not confined to India. A meaningful share of consultations come from the diaspora across 85+ countries, which set hard requirements around timezone-aware astrologer availability and payment methods that work outside India.
Journey Mapping
Tracing a consultation from intent to receipt showed three places a paid session could break: the queue, the connection, and the wallet. Each became its own service with its own failure handling, rather than one monolithic call flow.
